If I used something super shimmery on the lid, I always use a neutral matte shade to blend out the edges and produce a somehow polished look.ītw, if you want to dip your toes into grown-up glitter, choose a rather neutral shade that adds a bit of interest to your look. ![]() It really makes glitter particles stay put, and not migrate all over your cheeks. I usually add some glitter/shimmery eye shadow on the middle of the lid – I found Too Faced’s glitter glue invaluable for that. If you find a glitter that doesn’t accentuate lines and texture, all the better, but usually, I find that hard, and just go for the shimmery route. Well, I can say with confidence that a neutral matte eye makes me look dead in the worst way, and that, texture or not, I find a pop of a shimmery eye shadow, much more youthful. That’s because you’re not supposed to draw attention to your textured lids and fine lines around your eyes, apparently. I’ve read some makeup guides geared towards women over 40, and they all seem to be really sure that you’re supposed to go towards matte and neutral eyeshadows.
